Laureano drops F-bomb during in-game ESPN interview vs. Sox

Well, it happened again -- the ESPN broadcast mic’d up another player during the AL Wild Card Series. After interviewing Mark Canha on Wednesday, A’s center fielder Ramón Laureano got the honors Thursday, who gave some play-by-play in the process.

This time, however, the ball found Laureano multiple times, including on a line drive by Sox outfielder Eloy Jimenez in the top of the third inning.

Laureano dropped an F-bomb in the process of making the play, because, well, that happens sometimes on live television. (NSFW warning).

Jimenez, who actually was removed from the game with an injury after this double, appeared to shock Laureano with how quick he was.

After Laureano’s interview, ESPN broadcasters Dave Flemming and Jessica Mendoza said Laureano wanted to do the interview and it had been cleared by MLB Player’s Association, even during the playoffs. That fell upon deaf ears on much of social media, which caused an uproar saying it was the wrong time and place -- especially during an elimination game.

Poole: Why Rickey was, for too short a time, the best among us

“Well, we should thank Ramón Laureano once again for being with us from the field in the middle of a playoff game,” Flemming said during the broadcast. “I know it makes some people uncomfortable. I think it’s worth saying out loud that we ask the players nicely. The Players’ Union, Major League Baseball, has encouraged players to, even in playoff games, to be willing and volunteer.”

Flemming said Ramon “wanted to do it,” but didn’t provide context as to how the request went down.

On Wednesday, Canha said he didn’t find the interview distracting. He liked what it brought to the game and explained he liked what it does for fans.
