A’s coach Mark Kotsay will take on a new role in 2021 as the team’s third-base coach, the team announced Thursday. He previously served as the team’s quality control coach for three seasons under manager Bob Melvin.
This will be Kotsay’s sixth season on the A’s coaching staff. In addition to his responsibilities at third base, Kotsay also will share infield defensive positioning duties with Eric Martins, one of the team’s hitting coaches.
Darren Bush remains the team’s hitting coach heading into his seventh season in the role. He is the longest-tenured hitting coach in Oakland history, and the team said in a press release that Bush’s nine seasons as a coach are tied for sixth-most in club annals.

Pitching coach Scott Emerson returns to the A’s in 2021 for his 19th season in the organization, while Ryan Christenson will be back for his fourth season as the A’s bench coach -- his 16th season in the A’s organization.
