The “ride the wave” mantra was adopted by the Athletics while the team was in the midst of their 13-game winning streak last month. Starter Chris Bassitt came up with it after a conversation with Jesús Luzardo where they decided they wanted to continue their success.

“It was more so of us talking basically about riding this out, which I mean, we were getting our butts kicked at the start of the year,” Bassitt told NBC Sports California recently.
"Not trying to do too much, trying to be ourselves, and just ‘ride this wave out.’ Nobody thinks this is good, but we have confidence in the group that we have, we know how good we are.”
Bassitt added the whole point of the movement was simple: Not to do too much. The A’s knew they were good despite an 0-6 start after facing the Houston Astros twice and the reigning World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
None of the guys panicked. Having the veteran names of Mitch Moreland, Jed Lowrie and Elvis Andrus certainly helped in the notion.
