Dave Stewart believes all MLB teams should not have played Wednesday

The Giants-Los Angeles Dodgers game was postponed at Oracle Park on Wednesday in protest of the Jacob Blake shooting in Wisconsin. Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, was shot in the back seven times by police officers.

That game joined two others in MLB, as well as the entirety of the WNBA and NBA in boycotting their games.

But while three MLB games were postponed, the rest of the slate went on as planned.

A’s analyst Dave Stewart felt strongly that MLB fully should have been united in canceling all games, as he mentioned during A's Pregame Live:

“Basketball is in the playoffs right now, the first round of playoffs and they canceled their games -- that’s making a statement,” Stewart said. “Major League Baseball is in their season -- I think that it would have been a proper statement by every team not playing versus some players opting out or, in the case of Milwaukee and Cincinnati opting out -- not to play.”

“The statement that should have been made is that ‘We solidify with what the other teams are doing and we support what they’re doing and we support Black Lives Matter.’”

The A’s-Texas Rangers game went on as planned, however.

Oakland infielder Tony Kemp wore a Black Lives Matter shirt during the national anthem, while he placed his hands behind his back. He also sported the shirt visibly throughout the game.
