The A's are turning to Mike Fiers to keep their season alive. The veteran right-hander was announced Thursday morning as Oakland's Game 3 starter against the Chicago White Sox in the AL Wild Card Series.
Fiers, 35, has a successful history against the White Sox. He's 4-0 with a 1.58 ERA against them in his 10-year career. Fiers went 6-3 with a 4.58 ERA this season for the A's.

He had a 4.09 ERA over four starts in September.
This has to feel good for Fiers for multiple reasons, too. He twice was passed over by manager Bob Melvin in the AL Wild Card Game the past two seasons, and was left off the Houston Astros' playoff roster in 2017. He last pitched in the playoffs in 2015, when he tossed one inning and allowed one run for the Astros in a loss to the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS.

Dane Dunning will start on the hill for the White Sox. The 25-year-old rookie went 2-0 with a 3.97 ERA this season.
