The Athletics announced Saturday that starting pitcher Mike Fiers has been placed on the 10-day Injured List with a sprained right elbow.
Fiers has an old ligament injury that now has fluid and inflammation around it.
“Mike came to us after his last start and mentioned he was having some discomfort in his left elbow,” A’s head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta told reporters on Saturday. “He requested to kind of getting it looked at, so we did that.”

Paparesta said Fiers got an MRI on Friday morning and then conversed with doctors.
Paparesta also added Fiers could be shut down for a few weeks before they re-evaluate him. Fiers requested a second opinion.
It also was noted that these types of injuries could be the result of wear and tear from Fiers' entire career.
The 11-year MLB veteran got a late start to the 2021 MLB season after sustaining a lumbar strain. In just two starts this year, Fiers has posted a 7.71 ERA with five strikeouts in 9 1/3 innings.
