The Athletics had a series of injury updates on Tuesday.
Third baseman Matt Chapman was not in the lineup against the Kansas City Royals to start a three-game series after dealing with some shin/ankle issues after multiple foul balls hit him in the area, which had finally caught up with him.
While he’s feeling better, it wasn’t enough to let him play.

“Just still kind of locked up and not moving around really well,” Melvin said. “Hopefully we get some progress here soon.”
Josh Harrison will get the start at third base, batting first.
Additionally, A’s starter Chris Bassitt is scheduled to throw a bullpen on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium.
He’s progressing well after being hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Chicago White Sox’ Brian Goodwin on Aug. 17 while he was on the mound. He underwent surgery to fix some facial fractures and said recently he’s feeling great.

“This is a little bit different situation where we have probably a couple things we’re trying to monitor,” Melvin said. “You know, where his arm is as far as being in shape -- certainly don’t want any setbacks with what’s going on. I know if it were up to him, he wouldn’t want too many.”
Bassitt did say in an in-game interview with NBC Sports California recently that he was able to stay in shape throughout his healing process, which could assist in a speedier recovery.
