A's burned again by Gallo in eighth loss in last 12 games

The Athletics suffered another tough loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday, falling 8-3 at the Coliseum.

Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo is one of the main culprits for the loss, but the A’s haven’t had much luck lately, either.

“We haven’t played great, we haven’t played our best here for 10 days or so now,” A’s manager Bob Melvin said following the game. “Give them credit, though. They’re swinging the bats well against us and doing enough on the pitching end as well.”

Gallo hit four home runs during the three-game series and Thursday's game was his fifth straight with a homer.

Gallo came into the game with one hit in 13 career at-bats against A's starter Sean Manaea, leading one to believe the lefty pitcher had the advantage.

That wasn’t the case as Gallo went 3-for-3 off Manaea with two singles and a two-run homer.

“It’s not easy when he’s on a hot streak,” Melvin said. “You look at Manaea’s numbers off him coming into today’s game it was 1-for-13 with seven strikeouts and he got good swings on his every time.”

Poole: Why Rickey was, for too short a time, the best among us

Athletics announce 17-game promotional schedule for 2025 season

A’s designated hitter Mitch Moreland, who played with Gallo in Texas in 2015 and 2016, mirrored what Melvin said.

"What he did this series was pretty impressive obviously finishing off today with three missiles,” Moreland said. “He seems like he's getting his pitch and not really missing it and he can go on some hot streaks."

That appeared to be a similar situation for Rangers bats all around as they totaled 15 hits and four home runs Thursday.

Moreland did say the A's, who have lost eight of their last 12, are used to highs and lows as any group is, but it definitely could be better.

“Not worried about it at all,” Moreland said. “We could come out tomorrow and be right on track. That’s just the way we do it, the way we play the game. Everybody will come ready to play tomorrow and forget about this one today.”
