The A’s agreed to terms with first baseman Matt Olson and infielder Tony Kemp on one-year contracts for the 2021 season prior to Wednesday's non-tender deadline.
Olson’s contract is worth $5 million, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported, citing sources. Kemp’s deal, The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser reported, is worth $1.05 million.
Olson was the only Athletic to play in all 60 games in 2020. The two-time Gold Glove Award winner didn’t put up his usual numbers at the plate last season, slashing .195/.424/.734. Olson's power was still there, as he hit 14 homers and his 92.3 mph average exit velocity was in the top 25 in the majors.

Kemp will be returning for his second year on the A’s. He finished his 2020 campaign hitting .247 with 23 hits in 49 games. Kemp brings versatility to the A’s defense and committed just one error in 2020. Second base remains Kemp's mainstay, but he'll have a spot in the lineup because of his speed on the bases even as the position remains crowded (and for good reason).
The A’s also announced they tendered all contracts to the remaining unsigned players on the 40-man roster. Oakland now has six arbitration-eligible players remaining on the roster: Chris Bassitt, Mark Canha, Matt Chapman, Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino.
