Angels hit MLB record-tying seven solo home runs in loss to A's

The Los Angeles Angels hit seven home runs on Thursday, yet they still lost to the Oakland Athletics.

How is that possible? Well, each of the Angels' seven dingers were solo shots. The A's scored eight runs, enough to secure an 8-7 victory in Anaheim.

The Angels are just the second team to hit seven home runs and lose, the first since the Chicago White Sox in 2016. Los Angeles hit a home run in each of the first four innings, but quickly trailed after allowing six runs to the A's in the third inning.

Reigning MVP Shohei Ohtani had two homers for the Angels, bringing his season total to 24. He has five multi-home run games this season. Kurt Suzuki (second inning), Taylor Ward (third), Jo Adell (fourth), Jared Walsh (sixth) and Mickey Moniak (ninth) also went deep.

With the loss, MLB teams are now 113-6 all-time when hitting seven home runs in a single game.

Days like Thursday have defined the Angels' season. Even with Ohtani and Mike Trout on the roster, Los Angeles is just 44-61, well on its way to missing the postseason for an eighth straight season.
