One thing was clear heading into the 2022 MLB season: The Athletics were in rebuild mode.
After trading away marquee players such as Chris Bassitt, Matt Chapman, Matt Olson, Sean Manaea, and others, Oakland made it known to fans that it would be a challenging season on the field.

However, despite seeing a young team take its growing pains, A's reliever Domingo Acevedo stated that the team wants to give the fans that show up to the Oakland Coliseum and even on the road the best of their ability every game they take the field.
"The truth is that we haven't been getting a lot of fans to the stadium," Acevedo told Telemundo 48's Carlos Yustis on "All A's."
"But whether it's 1, 10, or 20, or thousands, whatever the number may be we try to give them our best. First because of the respect for the game as well as the respect we have for the fans, who show up to support us."
Additionally, the 28-year-old pitcher noted that the A's want to give their fans that are sticking with the franchise through this rebuild something to root for despite the situation not being an ideal one for the team.

"Despite the problems we might be going through, we have people sometimes bring us fruit, things like strawberries, chocolate candy, and I thank them very much for that," Acevedo added. "Yes, believe me, even if 10 fans show up for us, we'll try to give them our best as a team."

With the 2022 season ending, Acevedo and the A's hope to end the year on a positive note. The Oakland reliever is taking advantage of being put in save situations, recording four in the month of September.
Like many of the players on the current team, Acevedo is auditioning for roles next season, and it appears that his name will be in the mix for the closer position in 2023.
