ARLINGTON -- The A's sure could have used Jordan Norberto on this road trip. The left-handed reliever has been a key component in the bullpen all season long. He is on the disabled list for the second time this season with a throwing shoulder issue. Norberto has played catch a couple times but is still doubtful to take the mound for the A's at any point this year. He has been on the disabled list since Aug. 21 with left shoulder tendonitis. "There's just no way he could step into a game and throw at this point," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "I can tell you we've missed him. He is a guy that has been so valuable for us." The versatile, bearded lefty can get both righties and lefties out and 19 of his 39 outings were for more than one inning. Norberto was versatile in the bullpen and was used in many different roles. He has a 4-1 record with a 2.77 ERA, 46 strikeouts and 22 walks. Getting Norberto back in game shape is especially difficult because there are no more minor league games left for him to rehab in. He has missed a total of 54 games this season. On Sept. 15, Norberto told CSNBayArea.com that a return this season would be difficult.
