According to Jon Heyman, Ross has "easy" performance bonuses that would take his deal to $6 million.
Ross, 31, went 8-9 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.30 WHIP last season between the San Diego Padres and the St. Louis Cardinals. The right-hander has a career ERA of 3.95 in nine major league seasons. His best season came with the Padres in 2014, when he finished 13-14 with a 2.81 ERA and made his only All-Star Game.
Ross began his career with the A's after being drafted in the second round out of Cal in 2008. He mostly struggled in his three seasons with Oakland, going 6-18 with a 5.33 ERA between 2010 and 2012.
Ross' signing could start to set the market for other free agent pitchers such as Edwin Jackson and Trevor Cahill. Jackson, 34, posted a 3.33 ERA last season in Oakland but has a career ERA of 4.60. Cahill, 30, registered a 3.76 ERA last year with the A's and has a career ERA of 4.08.
