MLB rumors: Jesus Luzardo cleared to rejoin A's after coronavirus recovery

He's officially back.

A's starter Jesus Luzardo has been cleared to practice and will return to A's camp, MLB.com's Martin Gallegos reported Friday.

Luzardo hadn't been with the team after announcing a positive coronavirus test back on July 7. According to the MLB's protocols, players must get two negative tests before they can get back into training camp with their teams.

“He’s itching to get back, and he feels good,” A's manager Bob Melvin said on Monday, “but you have to test negative a couple of times and that part I can’t get into, unfortunately.”

The A's have a solid rotation already in place with Mike Fiers, Frankie Montas, Sean Manaea and A.J. Puk currently working out in Oakland. But the addition of Luzardo pushes the A's into having one of the AL's better five-man rotations, which could be an ideal complement to the offensive firepower of Matt Chapman, Matt Olson and 2019 AL MVP third-place finisher Marcus Semien.
