MannyWatch: Hitless through two at-bats

Manny Ramirez's stint with the River Cats continued Thursday as he played in his fifth game with Sacramento. He batted third as the designated hitter against the Round Rock Express' starting pitcher Neil Ramirez, who has a 4-4 record and 6.56 ERA in the Pacific Coast League.

Ramirez is 0-for-2 with an RBI and a strikeout in his first two plate appearances Thursday.

In his first at-bat, Ramirez came to the plate with Eric Sogard on second and one away. He took two balls before fouling off the third pitch. After Sogard stole third, Ramirez grounded the 2-1 pitch to shortstop. Ramirez was retired, but he was credited with the RBI as Sogard came in to score and make it a 1-0 game.

Ramirez then led off the third inning with a seven-pitch at-bat that ended in a called strike three.

Ramirez, 39, was 3-for-12 in his first four games with Sacramento, scoring twice and knocking in one run. None of his hits went for extra bases, and he's walked twice and struck out three times.

Ramirez is eligible to be activated on May 30, but the A's have not committed to doing so.

"We're not locked in to May 30th," manager Bob Melvin said before Wednesday's game with the Angels.
