The Giants traded Matt Duffy to Tampa Bay on Monday.
While many in the Bay Area media were stunned by the move, Duane Kuiper wasn't.

"Not surprised. Not surprised that's what it took to get Matt Moore," Kuiper told KNBR 680 on Tuesday morning. "And not surprised that Bobby Evans and Brian (Sabean) pulled the trigger, given that they play the Dodgers nine more times -- Dodgers more susceptible against lefties, young guy, you got him for a while.
"And then in order to get somebody good, you gotta trade somebody good."
After the Giants acquired Eduardo Nunez from Minnesota last Thursday, Giants GM Bobby Evans assured Matt Duffy the team was not replacing him.
A couple days later, the 2015 runner-up for Rookie of the Year was shipped out of town.

"The fact that they had traded for Nunez really gave them the option to be able to do this," Kuiper explained. "There isn't anybody that wanted to see Duffy walk out the door. He's the perfect poster child for what this organization has done, and is still trying to do. And that's draft somebody, develop them, treat them well, get to the big leagues, contribute to a World Series championship, sign them to a long-term contract.

"You know what, every once in a while there's a different script and that's exactly what happened with Matt Duffy. And he's gonna be missed. He was a really, really great, great kid. And I'm gonna miss him."
Is Kuiper concerned about clubhouse chemistry?
"Not at all," he answered. "The environment in that clubhouse has been set. Unless you start bringing in guys that aren't good people, then that can change.
"There is gonna be a dynamic with who loses the spot in the rotation but it's gonna be dealt with. And it'll be fine. I walk around that clubhouse and I'm amazed at how well everybody gets along. And it's been that way since Bruce Bochy got here.
"So I don't think that's even an issue at all. I think everybody realizes that sometimes this is a business where you're gonna have to say goodbye to a guy that you really adore. And the fans loved Duffy, teammates loved Duffy, but you have to move on. And I think that's exactly what will happen."
