Jeff Samardzija's second start as a member of the Giants went much better than his first.
"In Milwaukee he was overamped, you could just see the way he took the field -- he charged out there in the bottom of the first (laughing) and he was the only guy out there on the field for about a minute," Mike Krukow explained on KNBR 680 on Wednesday morning. "He just wanted to get it going. He was ready to be a Giant. And I thought he overthrew ... he was not hitting his spots.

"Last night, he hit his spots. It's that simple."
Samardzija allowed two runs on six hits and two walks over eight strong innings.
He struck out five and threw 111 pitches.

Samardzija retired the final nine batters he faced.
"He didn't have a great slider, but he had a great cutter," Krukow added. " ... They didn't have much really loud contact. He broke bats, and I don't think he got a lot of help on the corners either with Sam Holbrook, the home plate umpire. I like Holbrook, I think his strike zone was good, but he didn't really do Samardzija a whole lot of favors.
"And through all that, he was very focused, he pitched through an error. Every time he was challenged out there, he pitched through the challenge. I think he really feels like a Giant this morning."
In his debut against the Brewers, Samardzija allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in a 4-3 loss.
After the game, he told reporters that fans will "see what I'm all about" once they look at his whole body of work over the season.
Samardzija knew he would bounce back.
“This is the kind of stuff he has,” Bruce Bochy said on Tuesday night. “He just goes out there with confidence. When he knows he’s on top of his game, he attacks hitters on both sides.
"This guy, his potential is still so high. Obviously that’s why we acquired him.”
Samardzija's next start will come on Sunday in Los Angeles. For now, he will enjoy his first win in Orange and Black.
"He really feels like he deserves to wear that jersey now," Krukow said.
