Adam Duvall was part of the Mike Leake trade last season that helped bump Tim Hudson out of the rotation. On Wednesday, he was part of a Reds explosion that’ll make the Giants think harder about making a Jake Peavy decision.
Duvall hit the fourth homer of the day against Peavy, who walked off the mound in a 7-4 Giants loss with a 9.00 ERA. Peavy gave up seven earned in six innings and was charged with 13 runs in just eight innings on this road trip.
Manager Bruce Bochy has stuck behind Peavy and struggling fifth starter Matt Cain, but the trend is not in the right direction. Peavy has gone down two different ways in the last week. After walking just two in his first four starts, he walked five against the Mets. After allowing just two homers in his first five starts, he gave up four on Wednesday.

The Reds put up a five-spot in the second, getting homers from Brandon Phillips, Eugenio Suarez and Zack Cozart.
Starting pitching report: The four-homer game was the third of Peavy’s career. He previously did it in 2003 and 2008.
Bullpen report: Mac Williamson and Denard Span hit back-to-back doubles in the ninth. The Reds bullpen has allowed a run in 22 consecutive games.
At the plate: Brandon Belt hit a solo shot in the second. He has five homers in 14 career regular-season starts in Cincinnati, his most for any park outside the division.
