Giants pitching prospect Gregory Santos was struck in the head by a 105 mph line drive Saturday night in Salem, Ore. and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance.
Santos, facing Griffin Conine, was hit in the head in the top of the first inning and immediately went straight down onto the pitcher's mound. Conine, the son of 17-year MLB veteran Jeff Conine, was just the third batter of the game.
Play stopped for 20 minutes as an ambulance came to drive Santos to a local hospital. He was placed on a stretcher and taken off the field.

Santos retired the first two batters of the game before being struck in the head. Miguel Figueroa replaced Santos and immediately allowed a two-run homer.
The Giants acquired Santos, along with Shaun Anderson, prior to the trade deadline last year from the Red Sox in exchange for Eduardo Nunez. Going into Saturday night's game, the 18-year-old is 2-3 with a 3.64 ERA in nine starts for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in Class A Short Season.
Santos is ranked as the Giants' No. 8 prospect by Baseball America and No. 14 by MLB Pipeline.
