SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants waited it out with Angel Pagan the first time his hamstring acted up, but when Pagan hobbled into first on a grounder Monday night the decision was made. Pagan had an MRI that showed no additional damage to his strained left hamstring, but this time the Giants aren't going to let him heal on the active roster. Pagan was put on the disabled list Tuesday, with Jarrett Parker called up.
"This time we're going to give him the full two weeks off," manager Bruce Bochy said. "This is a no-brainer to go ahead and DL him."

Parker will get a shot to prove himself here, with at least two consecutive starts as Hunter Pence heals and then likely a bunch more on the next road trip. Parker was hitting .400 in Triple-A this month with 11 homers in 65 at-bats, but that success hasn't translated against big league pitching this season. The Giants would still like him to swing-and-miss a bit less, but frankly, this lineup could use a bit of that right now. The all-contact guys are slumping, and the Giants could use a player to get hot and hit two or three homers in a week and maybe wake up the rest of the lineup. Parker is as good a bet as any at this point.
As for Pence, a day after his scorched walk-off, Pence isn't doing anything on the field. Bochy hopes to give him these next two games off since the team is off Thursday. That would give him three full days to heal, and get him back in the lineup Friday at Coors Field.
--- Sergio Romo struck out three and gave up a solo homer last night, and Bochy said the reports were good. Parker said Romo looked like Romo. He also noted that Joan Gregorio, who started the game and struck out eight, was electric. Giants officials are excited about Gregorio's progress this season, and he's getting a ton of strikeouts with good command of a fastball-slider combo. If the Giants need another starter soon, Gregorio won't be far down the list.
--- Bochy exchanged texts with Ryan Vogelsong and said the former Giant is "doing fine." Vogelsong has facial fractures after getting hit by a pitch, and he'll need surgery. Jeremy Affeldt also texted with Vogelsong and said his vision is coming back quickly, which is a great sign.
