SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants woke up to the news that Andrew Miller had been traded to the Indians, and it wasn't a surprise that the package -- headlined by outstanding outfield prospect Clint Frazier -- was so overwhelming. When the Giants checked on Miller, they were asked to include a big leaguer that Bobby Evans described as a "significant piece" and somebody he didn't want to trade.
So, the search continues, and Evans said there have been "no surprises" in the asking prices the last couple days.
"A lot of the asks are off our Major League club," he said.

That's not a complete non-starter for the Giants, but it's close. You can guess a lot of the names: Joe Panik (who is said to be a player the Yankees sought), Matt Duffy, Hunter Strickland, Derek Law, Mac Williamson, etc. And that's just to start a deal. Most of the trades that have been made include significant prospects, too.
"You're seeing deals made at very high levels of return," Evans said. "Sellers are motivated because the return is very high. There's always a point where you can make a deal, but the options are more limited and the costs are extremely high."
Evans said he remains "open-minded" about adding a starter or bat, and sources listed some big names among the current targets. The Giants continue to monitor Jay Bruce and are said to like Matt Moore, a left-handed starter in Tampa Bay. The cost will be high for either, so it's worth noting that Brian Sabean spent his week at Double-A Richmond. The Giants may have to make a tough decision on a Christian Arroyo or Tyler Beede in the next 24 hours.
--- Brandon Crawford (bruised hand) and Denard Span (bruised quad) are out, but Crawford is available to pinch-hit. The hope is that both are back Tuesday in Philadelphia.

--- Duffy had a hit last night in his rehab debut and Bruce Bochy said the game "went very well." Duffy will DH for seven innings today. He is currently lined up to return in Miami.
--- Cory Gearrin (shoulder) feels good and will make his second rehab appearance tomorrow night for the River Cats. He'll have to check all the boxes: back-to-back, multiple innings, etc. He also hopes to be back by the end of the upcoming road trip.
