Giants mascot Lou Seal, A's mascot Stomper have heated Twitter battle

A seal and an elephant walk into a bar. No, no, that's not how the joke goes.

A seal and an elephant log onto Twitter. Weird, but true.

The A's had a simple question for fans on Tuesday as part of their Week of Giving: If you could play catch with three current or past A's players, who would they be? And from the top rope came the snark of Giants mascot, Lou Seal.

Corny hashtags aside, not a bad burn. Barry Zito, Yusmeiro Petit and Tim Hudson all spent time with the A's, and each won a World Series for the Giants.

Speaking of World Series rings, A's mascot Stomper chimed in and brought it all the way back to 1989. But Lou Seal had to send the mascot a reminder -- Stomper wasn't even created yet when the A's swept the Giants in the '89 World Series.

Lou Seal became the Giants' official mascot in the summer of 1996 while Stomper was first featured at A's games in the 1997 season.

In the end, Lou Seal got the last laugh by reminding Stomper that the Giants won The Bridge trophy last season, by winning three of four games from their rivals across the Bay.

The A's took home the trophy in its first year (2018), taking four of six games from the Giants. Between the regular season and playoffs, the A's hold an all-time 77-67 record over the Giants in head-to-head battles.

The Battle of the Bay still is going strong into the offseason.
