Giants' Gabe Kapler focusing on preparation amid coronavirus pandemic

Although plenty of proposals have been floated, there remains no timetable for when or even if the 2020 MLB season will begin.

Players and coaches remain at home, unable to work out as a team while the United States deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler is in Scottsdale -- where the Giants’ spring training facility is located -- and is choosing to direct his attention toward continuing to lay the groundwork for whenever his first season at the helm begins.

“What we’re focusing on, instead is,” Kapler told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Amy Gutierrez, "how can we be really prepared for that moment.

“The first way is staying in really close contact with our players, get them out workout schedules, send them drills, be very aware of what they’re up to.”

“The idea not being come into this season sharp and on point from a baseball perspective, but to be holistically in great shape, so peak physical condition, so there’s no real injury risk when the first time these guys stand in the batter's box or get off the mound.”

For now, Kapler also is staying sharp by simulating the Giants' season on MLB: The Show.
