Giants fans shouldn't care Barry Zito wore Dodgers hat on ‘The Masked Singer'

Former Giants pitcher Barry Zito acquitted himself well on "The Masked Singer," but his elimination Wednesday night wasn't without controversy.

Well, "controversy."

Zito, who went from a much-maligned free-agent signing to a fan-favorite contributor on a World Series team during seven seasons with the Giants, wore an all-black Los Angeles Dodgers cap during Wednesday's episode of "The Masked Singer: After The Mask." Cameras followed him flying home for the birth of his child, as Zito wore the hat of the Giants' biggest rivals.

The 42-year-old Zito doesn't need a writer to come to his defense since this is, you know, a hat I'm blogging about. But if you're one of the few people still offended at the thought of then-49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wearing a Miami Dolphins hat, I come hat in hand to ask you to put on your thinking cap and consider the following:

  1. Zito no longer plays for the Giants, so it really doesn't matter whose hat he wears.
  2. Zito attended Los Angeles Pierce College and the University of Southern California, and he lived in LA at one point during his playing days.
  3. Zito no longer plays for the Giants, so it really doesn't matter whose hat he wears.
  4. Zito played an improbably pivotal role in the Giants' 2012 World Series win, and his place in fans' memories is secure.
  5. Zito no longer plays for the Giants, so it really doesn't matter whose hat he wears.
  6. Zito struck out more Dodgers in his Giants career (105) than any other NL opponent.
  7. Zito no longer plays for the Giants, so it really doesn't matter whose hat he wears.

In other words, getting worked up about Zito's chosen headwear is old hat.

And hats off to you for stomaching the way-too-obvious puns.
