According to The Journal News, authorities said the suspects carried out the shooting as retaliation for the beating of someone they knew and was connected to an incident during a drag race two days earlier.
A Yonkers native, Nolan was selected by Oakland in the 18th round of the 2014 draft. He did not appear in any games while in the A's system and retired in 2014, though he remained on the team's restricted list.
Nolan, a 6-foot-7 lefty, was drafted out of Oklahoma City University and had undergone Tommy John surgery before being selected by the A's.
The A's sent Nolan's Rookie League jersey that he wore last year to his family, along with a home white jersey with his name and No. 47, which he wore in the Rookie League, on the back.
