The Phillies' acquisition of starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson on Saturday further illustrated the team’s strategy in adding pitching depth this offseason.
In short, the Phils are rolling the dice on bounce-back candidates, pitchers that struggled in 2015, but have a previous record of success.
“I think that’s right,” new general manager Matt Klentak said. “We offer an opportunity to players to come in and get back to the form they’ve shown in the past.”

The Phillies picked up Hellickson from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade for minor-league pitcher Sam McWilliams, who was their eighth-round selection in the 2014 draft. McWilliams, a 6-foot-7 righty, is 20 years old and showed promise in the Gulf Coast League in 2015.
