Cowgill reinstated from DL, optioned to AAA

OAKLAND -- The A's have reinstated Collin Cowgill from the disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento. The outfielder sprained his left ankle on June 22 against the Giants, after laying out for a ball hit by Brandon Belt in the ninth inning. After missing the ball on a dive, he had to chase it down and sprained his ankle in the process.Cowgill, 26, has missed 18 games since the injury. He was hitting .300 (9 for 30) with a homer and five RBIs in 10 games with Oakland before getting hurt. As part of his rehab process he played two games in Stockton with the Ports, going 1 for 8, and four games with the Sacramento River Cats, going 3 for 18.In the days following his left ankle injury Cowgill said that he has never rolled an ankle this badly in his career. With the A's having a full outfield, he will have to work his way back from Triple-A.
