Could A's win the Gio trade … this year?

Obviously the A's believe that they can (and will) win the Gio Gonzalez trade, when all is said and done. They wouldn't have dealt the All-Star lefty to the Nationals if they didn't think the trade was in their best interests. But most baseball experts assumed that the Nationals would "win the trade" in terms of the 2012 season, and that the A's would reap the benefits in the future.

Not so fast, perhaps.

SB Nation's Athletics blog examines the possibility that the A's could win the trade this year, writing in part:
As part of the Gio Gonzalez trade this offseason, the A's picked up several high upside prospects from the Nationals. The player who perhaps most flies under the radar, however, is our recently named 3rd starter, Tom Milone. The more video I watch of him, and the more I study his stats, I think he has the potential for a successful MLB career, and to be better in 2012 than Gio Gonzalez.
