OAKLAND -- Yoenis Cespedes sprained the thumb on his left hand in Sunday's game. He left the game prior to the fourth inning. He appeared to injure his thumb while stealing second base in the first inning. He reached base on an RBI single.
After the first inning, he took extra time in the dugout before heading back out to play left field. When he returned to the dugout in the middle of the second inning, team trainers examined his left hand, and he went back to the clubhouse to have his wrist re-taped.
He emerged from the clubhouse and ended up batting in the third inning. He grounded out to shortstop Brendan Ryan and then was replaced by Jonny Gomes.Cespedes spent time on the disabled list earlier this season with a left-hand strain. He was out from May 7-31, missing 22 games with that injury. We'll have more updates as soon as we get them.
