Bruce Bochy praises Logan Webb's ‘makeup' after third Giants start

Logan Webb put himself in a sticky situation in the first inning against the Padres on Saturday night.

The Giants’ rookie right-hander was faced with runners on the corners and just one out. But Webb didn't break. He struck out Eric Hosmer and Josh Naylor to escape the jam without giving up a run.

It's that kind of feat that impressed Giants manager Bruce Bochy.

"I like his makeup," Bochy told reporters at Oracle Park after the Giants' 4-1 loss. "He's got confidence, poise, he's got good stuff to work with, good secondary pitches along with a good fastball, commands it well. He's aggressive out there, and he's not going to back off. So, he's got a great way about him."

Webb allowed seven hits and one earned run over 5 2/3 innings against San Diego. He struck out seven batters along the way, and now has 16 punchouts in 15 1/3 innings since being promoted to the majors.

After making his first two starts on the road, Webb finally got the chance to pitch in front of the Oracle Park crowd, and he admitted there were some nerves.

"They were up there for sure," Webb told reporters. "Probably the same as the one in Oakland, too, but it was good nerves, it wasn't bad nerves. It was excited nerves."

Webb is the Giants' top pitching prospect, and the team has high hopes for him. If he keeps impressing Bochy and continues to pitch with confidence, he'll certainly have a long career.
