A’s manager Bob Melvin is a big fan of the cult classic film “That Thing You Do.”
Perhaps “big fan,” is an understatement, but he, along with his wife Kelley and daughter Alexi really love the movie.
His old friends at FOX Sports Arizona, from his time managing the Diamondbacks (2005-09), knew this, and wanted to make sure he was greeted with a very special surprise appearance by a couple of members from The Wonders:

Tom Everett Scott, who played "Guy Patterson" in the movie, started the surprise off, then Johnathan Schaech, who played "Jimmy" in the movie, joined them later.
“Come on!” Melvin said as Schaech joined the call.
It appeared the surprise was executed beautifully. Scott even put his “Shades,” on -- to give us what we wanted.

The three reminisced on the movie and how every member of The Wonders is actually connected to baseball in some way.
Tom Hanks, who starred as "Mr. White" in the film, has a suite at Dodger Stadium where the crew takes in games, but Melvin extended the invitation if they ever wanted to head to the Oakland Coliseum.
“We’d love to have you if we get going at some point again, we’d love to have you out,” Melvin said. “We know you look good in green so that’s our colors as well.”
FOX Sports Arizona was re-airing Game 3 of the 2007 NLDS where the D-backs faced the Cubs at Wrigley Field, so Melvin was there to give a preview. Well, that was the business portion of the interview.

Melvin also touched on the MLB hiatus the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic caused.
The actors from “That Thing You Do,” will be reuniting on Friday for a virtual watch party with MusiCares for the COVID-19 Relief Fund on YouTube.
This was awesome.
