Beane joins push for new stadium

The story has been the same from the A's front office all offseason: "When we sort out what's going to happen with our new stadium, we will start re-signing players accordingly."

Well, we are getting closer to an answer to that stadium qualification.

MLB is yet to inform Oakland if they will allow the A's to relocate to San Jose, where the Giants hold territorial rights. In the absence of knowing the future of their stadium, the A's have been caught in a holding pattern with respect to structuring contracts with players.

Frustrated with the limbo in which his team is stymied, A's GM Billy Beane -- who has kept himself well-distanced from the stadium concerns to date -- joined owner Lew Wolff to meet with Commissioner Bud Selig two weeks ago in Arizona, according to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle.

"It's now impacting our baseball planning," Beane said, "so I feel a need to get involved with this."

After meeting with the A's brass, Selig plans to meet with the Giants sometime over the next fortnight, according to a report by FoxSports.com.

The Giants, who own territorial rights over the South Bay, are adamant the move would destabilize their franchise in San Francisco, and are refusing to relinquish the area.

While no breakthrough has come yet, the ball is rolling once again in Oakland.
