A's score late to beat Dodgers; Mike Fiers get no-decision in solid debut

BOX SCORE

OAKLAND — Khris Davis broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning, plating Marcus Semien on a chopper to third, and the A's beat the Dodgers 3-2 on Wednesday night at the Coliseum.

Manny Machado fielded the ball and threw to the plate, but Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal couldn't hold on as he tried to swipe a tag on Semien.

The RBI was Davis' 25th since the All-Star break to lead Major League Baseball. For the season, he has 89 RBI, second most in MLB. Davis now has driven in at least one run in four consecutive games.

With the win, the A's improved to 68-47, a full three games ahead of the Mariners for the second American League wild card spot. Oakland also moved within five games of first-place Houston in the AL West.

Here's what else you need to know from Wednesday's victory ...

--- Mike Fiers made his A's debut, allowing only one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings, and matching his season high with eight strikeouts. Fiers, who no-hit the Dodgers in 2015 as a member of the Astros, took a perfect game into the fifth inning, but he did not factor in the decision. Fiers threw 78 pitches, 56 of which were strikes.

--- Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn his seventh win of the season, against four losses. He has not allowed an earned run since joining the A's (10 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 12 K).

--- Blake Treinen closed it out in the ninth for his 29th save of the season. Treinen lowered his MLB-best ERA to 0.93.

--- Stephen Piscotty and Ramon Laureano both came through with RBI singles in the fourth inning against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw.
