A's reliever Liam Hendriks selected to AL All-Star team as replacement

Less than a week ago, it looked like A's third baseman Matt Chapman would be the lone representative for Oakland at the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

We're happy to say that is no longer the case.

A's reliever Liam Hendriks now has been selected to his first All-Star team, MLB announced on Friday:

Hendriks will be a replacement for Tampa Bay's Charlie Morton, who is scheduled to pitch Sunday and therefore ineligible for the game. But Hendrick's recent numbers speak for themselves.

The 30-year-old is 3-0 with three saves and a 1.29 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 40 games. Hendriks has a league-leading 0.96 ERA among relievers with 58 strikeouts and has held opposing batters to a .193 average.

Hendriks also is coming off being selected as the AL Reliever of the Month in June, when he went 1-0 with two saves and a 0.60 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 14 relief appearances.

Oh, and then there is this:
