OAKLAND — There weren't a lot of positives for the A's Thursday night, but RHP J.B. Wendelken was certainly one of them. After being called up from Triple-A Nashville earlier in the day, Wendelken pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and matched a career high with three strikeouts.
Wendelken lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.04. Most importantly, he allowed Bob Melvin to rest his tired bullpen, setting the A's up nicely for the remainder of the series.
--- Khris Davis remains mired in a slump, after Thursday's 0-for-3 performance. Davis is 0 for his last 17 and 1 for his last 31. For the season, he is batting .248 with 39 home runs and 103 RBI. His next homer will give him three straight seasons with 40 or more home runs and 100 or more RBI.
