A's losing streak in winner-take-all games reaches MLB-record eight

It's been a long time since the A's won a World Series. It's been even longer since the franchise won a winner-take-all playoff game.

With their 7-2 loss to the Yankees in the AL Wild Card Game on Wednesday, the A's now have lost eight consecutive win-or-go-home games, the longest streak in MLB history.

1. Oct. 8, 2000 -- AL Division Series Game 5 -- Yankees 7, A's 5
2. Oct. 15, 2001 -- AL Division Series Game 5 -- Yankees 5, A's 3
3. Oct. 6, 2002 -- AL Division Series Game 5 -- Twins 5, A's 4
4. Oct. 6, 2003 -- AL Division Series Game 5 -- Red Sox 4, A's 3

The last time the A's won a winner-take-all game was Game 7 of the 1973 World Series against the Mets. And if you add potential clinch scenarios, the A's record is even worse.

Not ideal.
