ANAHEIM -- The A's are a season-high 21 games over .500 and have won 11 consecutive road games. Here's the lineup card as filed out by manager Bob Melvin.
Oakland A's
1. Coco Crisp (S) CF
2. Seth Smith (L) LF
3. Josh Reddick (L) RF
4. Yoenis Cespedes (R) DH
5. Brandon Moss (L) 1B
6. Josh Donaldson (R) 3B
7. Stephen Drew (L) SS
8. Derek Norris (R) C
9. Cliff Pennington (S) 2B
Instant AnalysisBrandon Moss is the hot hand. He stays in the lineup. The guy has six homers in his last 12 games, he deserves it. Melvin said on Tuesday that he wants to give Yoenis Cespedes some rest but he is too important to the lineup to give him a full day off. That is why he is DH. Nothing to be concerned about injury wise. Derek Norris is back behind the dish. Top of the OrderSmith has started in every spot in the lineup except leadoff this season. He's perfect for the second spot in the lineup and has been seeing a lot of playing time there. He is batting .293 with 12 runs, two homers and seven RBI since returning from the disabled list on August 21. Heart of the OrderJosh Reddick has been scuffling at the plate lately but has made up for it in the field. Melvin is comfortable sticking with him in the three spot and letting him work out his issues. On Tuesday he said he'd consider moving him down but doesn't want to shake up the rest of the lineup at this time. Bottom of the OrderCliff Pennington is 15 for 33 in his last 10 games. Everything is trending upward for Pennington. (Courtesy: Bloomberg Sports)Starting PitchersA.J. Griffin (5-0. 2.21) takes the mound for the A's against Ervin Santana (8-11, 5.21 ERA). According to the fantastic A's game notes put together by Mike Selleck, Griffin is the only Major League pitcher since at least 1918 to allow three runs or fewer and walk two batters or fewer in each of his first 10 career starts.Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
