Instant AnalysisWith a lefty on the mound the A's lineup has some modifications. Jonny Gomes gets back into the two spot as the designated hitter, Derek Norris gets back behind the dish, and Adam Rosales takes over at second base. Top of the OrderGomes has been very productive in limited playing time this season. He has 15 homers in his 82 games, and is batting .300 with seven homers, and 18 RBI in 27 games since the All-Star Break. Gomes has been a key contributor in the box score and behind the scenes. It's hard to imagine this team with Manny Ramirez. It's hard to believe the 40-year-old slugger would be outpacing Gomes. Heart of the OrderYoenis Cespedes and Josh Reddick each snapped out of individual slumps on Saturday. Cespedes collected his first extra-base hit in the month of September, and Reddick snapped an 0 for 18 skid. The bottom of the A's lineup has picked up the top of order lately. It has been a total team effort this season. Bottom of the OrderDating back to 2010 Adam Rosales has played 62 games at second base for the A's without making an error. That is the third longest streak in Oakland history. Mark Ellis leads the way with 102. Rosales is a better hitter in day games, batting .276 with the sun up compared to .182 at night. Starting PitchersThe series finale will feature a matchup of two lefties, Tommy Milone (11-10, 3.94 ERA) and Jason Vargas (14-9, 3.80 ERA). Milone has walked one batter or fewer in each of his last 13 starts. He ranks third in the American League in fewest walks per nine innings. He is 2-4 with a 5.71 ERA in his last seven starts. Vargas is 2-0 in four starts against the A's this season. He has emerged as one of the better pitchers in the A.L. this year. He is 6-2 with a 3.43 ERA since the All-Star Break.
