A's LF Davis day-to-day with right forearm tightness

The bruised and battered A's may have suffered another injury.

After grimacing on a swing in the bottom of the fifth inning Saturday, A's left fielder Khris Davis was removed from the game with right forearm tightness, the team announced.

Davis fouled off an 0-1 pitch from Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka and shook his right hand. He finished the at-bat and struck out.

He stayed in the game and played defense in the top of the sixth, but when the A's came out on defense in the top of the seventh, Coco Crisp moved from center to left, Billy Burns moved from right to center and Jake Smolinski entered in right field.

After the game, Bob Melvin told reporters that Davis is day-to-day.

Asked when Davis suffered the injury, Melvin referred to a play in the top of the fourth inning, not the swing in the fifth.

"Throw from the outfield, the one he was throwing home on, on the sac fly," Melvin said.

With the Yankees leading 1-0, they loaded the bases against Sean Manaea. Outfielder Aaron Hicks lifted a fly ball to left. Davis threw home, but his throw was offline.

Davis finished the day 0-for-3 with a strikeout.

The first-year Athletic is in the midst of a sparkling month of May. Entering play on Saturday, Davis has nine home runs and 20 RBI during the month. He's currently tied for second in the AL with 12 home runs.
