A's eye spring training move

The A's have entered into negotiations with the city of Mesa, Ariz., as they consider a new location for their spring training.

The franchise originally held spring training in Mesa after moving from Florida prior to the 1969 season -- when the team moved from Kansas City to Oakland -- spending 10 years in the city.

The A's moved to Scottsdale in 1979 and have trained at Papago Park in Phoenix since 1982. Their current agreement with the city of Phoenix expires after the 2014 season.

The As and Mesa will discuss moving the club's spring training and year-round minor league operations to Hohokam Park and Fitch Park.

Hohokam Park is the longtime spring training location of the Chicago Cubs.

According to a press release from the A's, "During this exclusive period, both parties will negotiate only with each other without any other third party contact. The negotiating window can be extended by mutual agreement and the approval of the Mesa City Council."
