A's bring back 2014 All-Star in trade with Royals

The young A's just added a veteran to the clubhouse, and it's a familiar face.

Brandon Moss, who played in Oakland from 2012 to 2014, was acquired from the Royals on Monday in the four-player trade.

Moss, left-handed pitcher Ryan Buchter and cash considerations are coming to the A's in exchange for right-handed pitchers Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer.

After bouncing around from several teams, Moss found a home in 2012 with the A's and hit 21 home runs in 84 games that year. After hitting a career-high 30 home runs in 2013, Moss represented the A's in the 2014 All-Star Game. That December, they traded him to Cleveland for prospect Joey Wendle.

Last season, Moss hit .207/.279/.428 with 14 doubles, 22 home runs and 50 RBI in 118 games. He spent most of his time in Kansas City as the designated hitter, but saw limited action at first base and in left and right field.

Hahn's stay in Oakland got off to a solid start in 2014 and 2015, but the last two seasons didn't go well for the 28-year-old. Hindered by injuries, he posted a 5.59 ERA in 23 appearances during 2016 and 2017.

Buchter turned in a solid 2017 season for the Padres and Royals. He appeared in 71 games out of the bullpen and recorded a solid 2.89 ERA.

Fillmyer was a fifth-round pick by the A's in 2014 and spent the entire 2017 season with Double-A Midland where he was 11-5 with a 3.49 ERA and 115 strikeouts in 29 starts.
