A's announce shortened Spring Training schedule

The Oakland A's announced their 2012 Spring Training schedule, which starts on March 2 with a game against the Seattle Mariners at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

The A's will play a 21-game Cactus League schedule due to a week-long visit to Japan from March 22 through March 29. Last spring, the A's played in 11 more contests for a 32-game slate.

Also on the A's schedule is a March 31 contest against the team's Triple-A affiliate, the River Cats, in their home stadium in Sacramento.

Following the exhibition with the River Cats, the A's will take on the cross-Bay rival San Francisco Giants for three straight games, two of which will be played at AT&T Park, with the contest on April 3 taking place at the O.co Coliseum.

The A's only take on the Giants once in Arizona, a split squad matchup on March 17.
