The A's announced Thursday they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with left-handed reliever Ryan Buchter, avoiding arbitration.
A source told NBC Sports California the deal is worth $1.4 million, plus an awards package, which is in line with the $1.3 million he was projected to get in arbitration.
Buchter, 31, is currently the only lefty in the A's bullpen, so his return was critical. Last season, he went 6-0 with a 2.75 ERA and 1.20 WHIP, notching 41 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings and earning just $555K. He was especially effective in August and September, allowing just two runs in his final 24 appearances.

Buchter was used primarily as a left-handed specialist, facing 92 lefties compared to 71 righties. He limited left-handed hitters to a .169 batting average and .496 OPS. He figures to fill the same role next season out of the Oakland bullpen, facing opponents' most dangerous left-handed hitters in key situations.
Buchter's return helps solidify the A's bullpen, which looks like it will once again be a major strength. Oakland's pen also features All-Star closer Blake Treinen, Joakim Soria, Lou Trivino, Fernando Rodney, and J.B. Wendelken, among others.
The A's now have five remaining arbitration-eligible players: Khris Davis, Marcus Semien, Mark Canha, Blake Treinen, and Sean Manaea. Friday marks the deadline to exchange salary figures with these players, though negotiations can continue after this.
